Kalcevic Dam Improvements Adams County, Colorado*For a number of years the Kalcevic Reservoir served as a water supply reservoir for the City of Thornton. After being abandoned, Kalcevic Dam slowly eroded to a point where it no longer met the State’s engineering requirements. Through funds provided by the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, Adams County, and the Hyland Hills Park & Recreation District, the dam and old reservoir impoundment area were modified into a stormwater detention facility and recreational area for Hyland Hills. The project involved creating an athletic field at the bottom of the pond; and designing an access road; and designing a new parking facility which doubled as the dam’s emergency spillway. Irondale Gulch Storm Sewer Outfall, Phase III Adams County, Colorado*This storm sewer improvement project funded by Adams County and the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District was required as part of a Stormwater Master Plan that improved the drainage of several neighborhoods in the Commerce City area. The project involved the installation of 1,700 linear feet of storm sewer in 80th Avenue and the relocation of multiple utilities. Little Willow Creek Channel Improvements Douglas County, Colorado*Located in an open space area of the Roxborough Village Development in Douglas County, a substantial portion of this channel was severely eroded to a point where it became hazardous to the adjacent recreational path users. The project involved the addition of four vertical sheet pile drop structures, one sloping grouted boulder drop structure, and the regrading of the channel embankments which included a benched area for wetland habitat. Due to the presence of the Preble’s Meadow Jumping Mouse within the creek corridor, the Fish and Wildlife Service required a design that would minimize disturbance to the channel bottom during construction. * previous experience with other firms |
